mother-daughter dates (for moms with grown-up daughters)

I love my mama.

Moriah + Joey_140.JPG

the two of us areย very different people, but over the years we have refined our relationship through the good and the bad, and we have become close friends as family, as women, and as mother and daughter.

mama

one of the things I cherish most in this world are the days I get to spend with her… doing nothing, doing errands, going on adventures or going out just to try out the local bakery or coffee shop.

I thought it might be fun to compile a short list of mom-approved AND daughter-approved mother-daughter dates for moms of older daughters. maybe she’s in those later high school years, married, off ruling her career, or chasing kiddos… whatever the case, there’s never a better time to reconnect with your daughter than RIGHT NOW. โคย  Continue reading “mother-daughter dates (for moms with grown-up daughters)”

blizzard picnic for two

can I be real for a second?

I love snow storms.

like… LOVE them. I mean, hours and hours of introvert time, alone with books, warm drinks, and the people I love is basically what heaven itself is made of, right? ๐Ÿ˜‰

so, J & I decided to celebrate the snow by having a little indoor snow day picnic. because what could be better than adding food and cuddles and games to the already lovely mix? I almost lost my ever-loving mind.

while the snow has begun to melt, and the magic of snowmaggedon 2016 has started to fade, it’s still frickin’ cold out there y’all! (well, too cold for picnics at least) so I say you can still have your own lovely indoor blizzard picnic for two!

Chick fil A calendar card: how it works & why it’s the perfect stocking stuffer

**This post is not sponsored, and I was not compensated in any way for this post. all opinions are my own.**

ah, Chick fil A… everyone’s favorite fast food restaurant! those perfectly salty, crunchy waffle cut french fries, the somehow amazingly delicious chicken… hungry yet? ๐Ÿ˜‰

while we ALL love this amazing establishment, have you ever heard of the chick fil a calendar card?

my mother has been putting one in my stocking for years, and now J & I make sure to add this awesome little goody to our stockings for one another each year!

but what IS it, exactly?
and how does it work?
how much does it cost?
and why do I need it?

glad you asked ๐Ÿ˜‰

cfa calendar card A

The chick fil a calendar card comes with, well, a calendar. ha! (imagine that), but if I’m honest, I really spend that little bit of cash for the card, not the calendar (which is totally adorable & covered with photos of their signature, poor-at-spelling cows!)ย  Continue reading “Chick fil A calendar card: how it works & why it’s the perfect stocking stuffer”

10 winter dates for couples

we areย already halfway through november, and winter is on her way! before you know it, there will be snow falling, carols being sung, and scarves actually being used for warmth as opposed to fashion ๐Ÿ˜‰

to get you in the wintry spirit, here are 10 winter dates you & your guy should be going on this winter!

10 winter date nights

1.) coffee walk
it’s exactly what it sounds like! bundle up nice and cozy, go downtown (even if a cute “downtown” is 45 minutes away!), grab coffee from a veryย hipsterย coffee shop, and just walk, enjoying the cold air, Christmas decor, and each other. Continue reading “10 winter dates for couples”

12 Christmas Eve Traditions for Couples (FREE PRINTABLE)

When all of the chaos of Christmas shopping and wrapping and baking and partying and all the other happy (but exhausting!) goodness that is the pre-Christmas season has finally come to an end, and you’ve reached the long-awaited Christmas Eve, there’s nothing better than settling in with your sweetie & enjoying the hush of the night before Christmas. ๐Ÿ™‚

and while spending time with the kiddos & getting their gifts under the tree is important, so is showing your love that they’re your #1! ๐Ÿ™‚ don’t forget about them in the rush!

I’ve compiled for you a few sweet ways to soak up the quiet and enjoy one another on this oh-so-special day!
traditions for couples

1.) Christmas jammies (or pajamas or pj’s…)
try on this grown-up version of the classic Christmas pj’s and buy one another somee goodies that are sure to have them ready to celebrate ๐Ÿ˜‰ red & green lingerie for the lady & some Christmas-themedย boxers for your man are just the thing and oh-so-fun!

2.) Christmas movie in bed!
pop the popcorn, fix up that cocoa, pull on those Christmas jammies, and grab your favorite Christmas-themed flick. there’s not much more time to enjoy those much-loved movies anyway, so soak it all in on Christmas eve. Cuddling mandatory ๐Ÿ˜‰

3.) Christmas memory ornaments
exchange ornaments that remind you of a favorite memory or special moment from over the past year. include a letter explaining what that time was and why it meant so much to you! โค you could even give each year a theme! (funniest memory, most romantic, etc…)

4.) Use the Santa tracker!
check it out here starting December 1st, then pick a country. when Santa “lands” on that country, celebrate Christmas withย their culture! If it’s Mexico, make tacos; for Italy, whip up spaghetti!

5.) Christmas Eve box
Throughout December, take turns adding items to a Christmas Eve box: a Christmas movie, wintery snacks, cozy items, Christmas-scented lotion, Starbucks gift card, etc…Then on Christmas Eve, open it up and use whatever is in it to create a day or nightย of fun! ๐Ÿ™‚ you can make this sexy, cozy, romantic, adventurous… whatever is best for the two of YOU!

6.) Christmas time capsule
make a time capsule that best describes the moments from the previous year. next Christmas Eve, you can open it and remember all the fun and special times the two of you shared! ๐Ÿ™‚

7.) wrap presents!ย
if you’re a procrastinator (ha!) or even if you’re not, this can be SUCH a fun tradition! last year, my husband and I even wrapped one another’s stocking gifts “together” by sitting on either side of our bed! ๐Ÿ™‚ wether you’re wrapping one another’s or gifts for your friends and family, make a date out of it by brewing the coffee (or cider! or cocoa!) and turning on some Christmas music!

8.) Christmas Eve scavenger hunt!
make it into a competition, or do it together! head out to your local mall or shopping center to see what you can see! there’s sure to be oodles of laughs and so much fun as you search for everything Christmas from a decorated tree to the frazzled, last-minute shopper ๐Ÿ˜‰ you could also turn this into a fun double date, or a competition with other couples! (loser buys cocoa!) print out the list here:ย Christmas Eve Scavenger Hunt

9.) Ugly Christmas Sweaters
take a trip to the Salvation Army or other thrift store and pick out the ugliest Christmas sweaters you can find for one another! then wear them out to coffee together ๐Ÿ˜‰ ย (or to do your Christmas Eve scavenger hunt!!)

10.) Bake Christmas cookies
an oldie, but a goodie ๐Ÿ˜‰ who doesn’t love baking & decorating Christmas cookies? bonus points if you’re dressed only in aprons & Santa hats!

11.) Read to each other
I LOVE this tradition. J… not so much ๐Ÿ˜‰ he tolerates it for me! I love love love my Christmas books, and I never ended up outgrowing them ๐Ÿ™‚ I still love to read them every Christmas, and Joey often sits down and allows me to read to him, and once in a while will read them to me ๐Ÿ˜‰ but if you’re a couple who LOVES to read, then this is for you! give it a try, and see how much fun it is!

12.) Christmas special marathon!
watch all the Christmas specials of all your favorite tv shows… the office, friends, parks and recreation, 30 rock, and doctor who are a few of our favorites! spend the day inside with your favorite snacks, curled under a blanket! way fun!

I hope these ideas gave you some inspiration for starting some new Christmas traditions of your own! enjoy the beautiful season!

100 cheap dates for married people (that are actually super fun)

we all know date nights are important. we also all know it can be tough to think of something that’s both fun and inexpensive when date night makes it’s weekly appearance!!

I mean, I’m not made of cash, and I’ve never run into any trees growing money, either, so in our house, date nights don’t have much room to splurge (we save that for anniversaries & birthdays & important holidays!!). and if you’re anything like J and I, you have a similar experience ๐Ÿ™‚

but! that doesn’t mean that quality time, fun, romance, or adventure have to be sacrificed under the claim of pinching pennies! you really, truly can still have an awesome time together on a (teeny tiny) budget.

I’ve scoured pinterest, recalled J’s & mine favorite times together, and brainstormed like crazy to bring you the master list of all cheap date night ideas. and I think it’s pretty spectacular (if I do say so myself) ๐Ÿ˜‰

so grab your hubby, some coffee, and a pen & paper, and write down your faves from below to try out together!! (hey, there’s your first date right there!) ๐Ÿ˜€ have FUN!

summer bucket list // progress report

YOU GUYS.

remember my post about my summer bucket list? (go ——> here <—— to read it!)
well, I thought I’d give you a little progress report, now that I’ve knocked off a couple items ๐Ÿ™‚
of my 5 big items, I’ve done 2, and made progress on 2 more!
I’d say that’s pretty decent!

since saturday, my hair hasn’t been dry for a full day, I’ve smelled salt and felt sand, and it’s been fantastical.
and make all sorts of progress on my bucket list has only made it that much better!

1. sunrise yoga on the beach

HAHAHA.
okay.
I’m sorry.
so, I did this about an hour ago. I made myself get up at 6amย after having hit the snooze alarm for the past three days and lugged my yoga mat, phone, bible, and self out to the beach. you guys. YOU GUYS. IT WAS SO WINDY. I ALMOST DIED. LIKE SAND WAS IN MY EYES, COULDN’T SEE, BLINDLY YOGA-ING WITH TEARS STREAMING DOWN MY FACE BAD. it was probably hilarious. BUT I DID IT. and tomorrow I’m planning on doing it again when there is (hopefully) less wind. and I’ll get real pictures with my real camera ๐Ÿ™‚
if you so desire, have a look on instagram to see a little time-lapse video I took! Continue reading “summer bucket list // progress report”

#lovetheinbetween // 3 tips on vacationing with in-laws

hey lovies ๐Ÿ™‚

I hope you’re still popping in, even though I’m on vacay… I’m doing my best to keep popping in ๐Ÿ˜‰

I thought I’d give y’all an update on the vacation, plus share a few thoughts on vacationing with in-laws!
love the in between vacation

whether it’s your first time vacationing with your hubby / wifey’s family, or your tenth…
whether you love them, don’t really know them, or have a tough time dealing with them…
whether you’ve been married for less than a year or for a few handfuls of years…

I’ve got three thoughts for you that have helped me have an AMAZING time over the past few days in myrtle beach! ๐Ÿ™‚

TIP #1: SORT OUT “WRONG” FROM “DIFFERENT”
just because someone does something differently, doesn’t mean that the way they’re doing it is wrong! to you, it may be strange, unnerving, disconcerting, or unconventional, but to them it’s the norm. that doesn’t mean that they don’t do anything wrong; it simply means you need to stop assuming that different=wrong! (if something’s happening that you feel is wrong, that means EXTRA grace and EXTRA of tips #2 + #3) ๐Ÿ™‚
